EXPO 2017 Shares Its Experience of Organizing an International Exposition with EXPO 2020
ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Kazakhstan's delegation attended the International Participants Meeting (IPM) dedicated to the upcoming EXPO 2020 Dubai.
There are three years to go until the World EXPO 2020 starts in Dubai, the UAE's largest city. The event will run between October 20, 2020 and April 10, 2021.
On October 19 and 20, the organizers of EXPO 2020 Dubai invited delegates from 180 countries to discuss the progress of preparations for the event. Kazakhstan's delegation was headed by Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Chairman of JSC National Company "Astana EXPO-2017".
"EXPO 2020 is not only an excellent opportunity for Kazakhstan to showcase its achievements, but also a way to further develop the bilateral relationship between our countries. 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future', the theme of EXPO 2020 Dubai, is very closely allied to the theme of our Astana EXPO 2017, 'Future Energy'. We hope that the innovations and ideas that have been presented in Astana, will be further elaborated at EXPO 2020," Akhmetzhan Yessimov said in the course of bilateral meetings.
Dimitri Kerkentzes, Deputy Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions, noted that, "The World EXPO 2020 Dubai raises quite an ample topic for the world community to discuss. The theme of the planet's sustainability will definitely be further elaborated, particularly with regard to alternative sources of energy. This demonstrates the continuity and relevance of the EXPO themes. International participants that have presented their inventions at EXPO 2017 in Astana will be able to further develop the topic at EXPO 2020 Dubai."
The IPM included a series of panel discussions for representatives of the countries exhibiting at EXPO 2020, as well as for the Exposition sponsors, partners and winners of the EXPO Live Impact Innovation Grants. The two-day event enabled its participants to look into details of preparation of the exposition facilities, the specifics of the theme and the legacy of EXPO 2020. They also visited the Exposition's construction site.
The exposition site covering a total area of 438 hectares will be located in Jebel Ali district, equally distant from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Once the Dubai EXPO 2020 is closed, its site will continue as a research centre and university.
During EXPO 2017, representatives of the Dubai EXPO 2020 Bureau visited Astana on several occasions as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Collaboration between JSC NC "Astana EXPO-2017" and the Bureau of Dubai EXPO 2020.
"We are thankful to Astana EXPO 2017 for the experience we had. The organizing committee of EXPO 2020 Dubai had an amazing opportunity to gain an insight into all the stages of organizing and running the EXPO, from start to finish. The representatives of our respective departments studied the issues of the Exposition's security, operational management, IT systems etc. This experience will help us to successfully implement our own project," said Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and director general of the Bureau of EXPO 2020 Dubai.
