MANCHESTER, England, May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Betfred have made Manchester City the new favourites for the 2013/14 season at 7/4 following the news of the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of this campaign.
David Moyes will pick up the reigns at Old Trafford on July 1 but there has been little interest in the Reds who have now drifted from 11/8 to 2/1 to retain their title. Betfred go 8/11 for Moyes not to win a trophy in his opening season as Manchester United manager and Evs for him to do so.
There has also been some support for Chelsea who could well be managed by Jose Mourinho once again in time for the new campaign. The West London club are into 11/4 to win their first league title since 2010.
Betfred spokesman John Hill,
"Since the news that Sir Alex had decided to step down broke on Wednesday morning, punters have been getting stuck into Manchester City to win back the title next season. We've made them the new favourites and while United under David Moyes are out to 2/1."
Moyes has been handed a six-year contract by Manchester United and is 7/4 to see that length out. He could well look to bring one or two player across to Old Trafford with him. Leighton Baines is 7/4 to make the switch, while Marouaine Fellaini is 4/1.
