Fintech Leader Smarkets to Add 75 Jobs to London and Malta Teams
LONDON, September 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Smarkets is one of the only European companies to implement a "self-management" culture
Smarkets (pronounced "Smɑrkəts"), one of the world's largest betting exchanges, has today announced plans to significantly increase the technology company's engineering and operations teams in order to accelerate the company's growth programs.
The expansion plans will seek to add 50 Python and Erlang engineers, as well as additional 25 marketing and operations staff, to support the Company's future ambitions in the UK and abroad. To facilitate the expansion, the company plans to build a new headquarters in central London.
Smarkets has revised financial forecasts multiple times this year, to reflect the unprecedented growth the company is currently experiencing. The company saw £1 billion in lifetime trading volume in March 2015 and Smarkets is now on its way to doubling that figure in less than a year.
Since inception, Smarkets has challenged convention within the fintech industry and the workplace environment is without exception. Smarkets is one of the only European companies to implement a "self-management" culture that removes all hierarchical corporate management structure.
Employees make their own decisions with regards to operational conduct, investment in technology and providing solutions for customers that are outside of typical scope. Keeping with this style, Smarkets's employees are able to take as much holiday time as required, to optimally perform. Sit/stand desks with wheels are also provided to every member of staff which allow for free movement within the office, as each employee can choose the style of their working environment.
Smarkets compensation includes a mixture of options and other typical pre-IPO perks, but one of the more ground-breaking elements is the ability for employees to set their own salary. "It's something that we believe stands out in the contributor's work," commented founder and CEO, Jason Trost. "Setting your salary is something that is practical and can be reflective of your skill level as corroborated by your peers. If you do good work, everyone makes sure you're recognized and allowing you to set your salary only reinforces this measure."
The positions are available immediately, and more positions will be added in the coming months.
