FlexEnable Honours Flexible Electronics Future Pioneers
CAMBRIDGE, England, February 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
FlexEnable, the leader in the development and industrialisation of flexible organic electronics, today for the first time presented its Innovators of the Future award to Jennifer DiStefano from Penn State for her novel approach to 2D materials for future applications in flexible electronics, as part of the annual FlexTech Alliance FLEXI awards dinner.
The award recognises outstanding research in the area of flexible electronics. Student posters/papers are judged by a distinguished, but anonymous, panel of academics and industry representatives from the flexible and printed electronics and display industries. This year saw submissions from ten different universities, which were judged on specific criteria, including originality, significance, references and layout, as well as the quality of the oral presentation.
Bob Reuss, 2015FLEX conference advisor and award panel chairman, was excited to see contributions by both graduate and undergraduate students and commented: "The work described covers relevant problems in both manufacturing technology and novel future applications and the timeframe stretches from near term utilisation of the students' work to longer term future developments. Taken together with the strong individual performances, this bodes well for both the industry and the 'nextgen' workforce."
Indro Mukerjee, Chairman of FlexEnable, said: "FlexEnable is delighted to sponsor this award and honour the future pioneers of flexible electronics. The high quality of the entries demonstrates a bright future for the industry, which will play a pivotal role in the increased market penetration of wearables, as well as being the key to ubiquitous sensing and unlocking the Internet of Things."
