Fora Care Launches Universal Tone™ Blood Glucose Monitor for Visually Impaired, Sighted Users
ST. GALLEN, Switzerland, May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Fora Care Suisse AG located in St. Gallen, Switzerland, announced today it is launching a new blood glucose monitor designed with visually impaired users in mind. The device may also provide convenience and privacy for sighted users. The Universal Tone™ blood glucose monitoring devices provide guidance to the user with beep sounds that provide real-time information to the user regarding their glucose reading. Universal Tone™ is available on Fora Diamond series blood glucose monitors.
The device was developed as an option to the high number of diabetic and other patients who are visually impaired or for sighted users who appreciate the convenience and privacy of an audible measurement result. About 10 percent of diabetic patients are severely visually impaired and about two percent are blind.
Fora Care's Universal Tone™ blood glucose monitors provide an easy-to-use alternative that provides accurate blood glucose measurement and information. This new technology provides benefits for patients and medical professionals including: allows measurement to be taken in low or no light conditions, provides privacy of testing, assists visually impaired users in hearing their test readings, makes the user aware of any measurement errors or ketone warnings, provides increased independence for visually impaired users. The device also puts the patient and the professional on the same page by using the same language.
This is how the device sound features work: When the beep tone is turned on, the device provides user support by marking the start of each step with a beep. When the Universal Tone™ option is turned on, the device provides guidance for use with a series of beeps and also outputs results with a series of beeps. Alarms may also be set that will remind the user to check their blood glucose.
"Fora Care Suisse AG is pleased to introduce our Universal Tone™ blood glucose monitors to the market to provide visually impaired users with an option that provides accurate information quickly and easily," said Ty-Minh Tan, CEO of Fora Care Suisse AG.
It is recommended that a sighted person assist with device set up and instructions for the user and provide assistance for blood glucose testing.
Fora Care's Universal Tone™ technology complies with NEW ISO 15197: 2013 for blood glucose monitoring with audible tones.
