Former Spanish Secretary of State for Energy Pedro L. Marin Joins The Brattle Group
LONDON, May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brattle Group, a global economic consulting firm, announced today that Pedro L. Marin, former Secretary of State for Energy within Spain's Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, will join the firm's London office as a principal on 1 June.
Dr Marin served as Secretary of State for Energy from 2008 to January 2011. In this role, he was responsible for electricity, gas and oil regulation, including the promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. He led the energy liberalisation process in Spain and coordinated the energy policy and initiatives among the country's 17 Autonomous Regions. During the 2010 Spanish Presidency of the European Union, he chaired the Energy Council, coordinating the overall energy strategy as well as the discussion on important pieces of legislation in the fields of energy efficiency, security of supply, infrastructure and new energy technologies. After leaving the Ministry of Industry, he returned to the Department of Economics at University Carlos III in Madrid, where he has been a professor since 1996.
Dr Marin is an expert in competition and regulation in various sectors, including energy, telecommunications, transportation and R&D-intensive industries, as well as in economic techniques of asset valuation. In particular, he has significant experience in the design, collection and use of large databases and deriving policy advice for governments and institutions. His research on competition policy and market structure in regulated sectors has been published in several books and international publications.
