Forum Set to Discuss Sustainable Development of Drainage and Sewerage Infrastructure in the Middle East

DOHA, Qatar, February 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Prompted by the demands of growing cities, flooding and a drive to improve wastewater management, the region is set to spend in excess of $3billion to develop this critical infrastructure class.

Qatar is leading the way with its much anticipated IDRIS program, set for commencement in 2014, as well the continued work on the Local Road and Drainage Program which featured 200 separate projects.

In addition to this, Saudi Arabia continues work to reduce the impact of flooding while UAE is engaged in a series of drainage projects as well as a Dhs721 million project to renovate sewerage systems and construct a new treatment plant in Al Ruwais.

Drainage & Sewerage Middle East will take place from 16 - 18 March 2014 at the W Doha Hotel, Qatar and will host regional experts who will come to discuss sustainable development of drainage and sewerage infrastructure as well as new developments in wastewater treatment.

The forum will feature regional case studies from sector leaders such as AECOM Saudi Arabia, Qatar University, Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi, Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning Qatar, Atkins, CH2M HILL, WSP and Alexandria Sanitary Drainage Co. The content and structure of the forum is designed to promote discussions and offer unique learning opportunities from the people currently engaged in these projects.

Key themes to be addressed include flood planning and prevention, waste water treatment, promoting sustainable treatment and reuse of wastewater, designing effective and sustainable drainage infrastructure, the effects of scum on sewer flows and management and treatment of sludge and grit.
