LONDON, April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The controversial gas extraction method known as 'Fracking' has been sanctioned after a report cleared the way for companies to resume the use of the technique; despite the process triggering two earth tremors near Blackpool last year.
"[Cuadrilla's experts] said there was a very low probability of other earthquakes during future treatments of other wells," said one of the report's authors, Prof Peter Styles from Keele University. "We agree that [last year's] events are attributable to the existence of an adjacent geological fault that had not been identified."There might be other comparable faults, (and) we believe it's not possible to categorically reject the possibility of further quakes." With the controversy continuing to surround fracking, make sure you don't miss SMi's Shale Gas Environmental Summit, taking place on the 23-24 May 2012 in central London. Where the event will play host for 2 days to the key players involved.
One of the speakers involved in the event, Simon Talbot Managing Director of GGS commented, "I welcome the Government expert panel's report. We believe that environmental protection is essential if shale gas is to be safely exploited in the UK. GGS have been monitoring ground-gas emissions for several years and our independent gas-monitoring service for Cuadrilla is designed to demonstrate that their work meets the highest standards of continuous environmental protection."
