Growth in Passenger and Cargo Traffic
FRA/rap> Fraport AG, the owner and manager of Frankfurt Airport (FRA), welcomed about 5.4 million passengers at its FRA global aviation hub in October 2013, resulting in a 3.5 percent increase year-on-year and a new October record - 185,000 more passengers than for the previous top October in 2012. As a result, FRA is continuing the growth trend of recent months. Cargo throughput climbed by 3.5 percent year-on-year to 186,085 metric tons. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) declined slightly by 0.4 percent to 2.5 million metric tons. FRA's aircraft movements dropped by one percent to 42,580 takeoffs and landings.
Serving a total of 9.81 million passengers - a rise of 7.3 percent year-on-year - the Fraport Group's majority-owned airports also registered growth during the reporting month. With almost 1.4 million passengers in October 2013, Peru's Lima Airport (LIM) recorded double-digit growth of 12.6 percent compared to the same month last year. About three million passengers used Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera, a similar gain of 12.1 percent. Combined, the Bulgarian airports of Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) on the Black Sea coast registered a 13.8 percent jump in traffic to 76,076 passengers.
