Fraport Traffic Figures - September 2011: Noticeable Passenger Growth Again in September
FRANKFURT, October 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
New Peak September Month for Passengers and MTOWs - Despite Decline Airfreight Remains at High Level
Fraport AG welcomed more than 5.3 million passengers at its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) home base in September 2011- a gain of more than four percent year-on-year. "With 5.3 million passengers, we have achieved a new peak September month at Frankfurt Airport. Our passenger figures remain on course and we expect to reach our forecast of four to seven percent growth at FRA for 2011," explained Fraport AG's executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte. For the nine month January-to-September 2011 period Germany's leading air transportation gateway registered about 42.8 million passengers - up 6.7 percent year-on-year.
FRA's accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) hit a new September monthly peak, advancing by 1.5 percent year-on-year to approximately 2.5 million metric tons. MTOWs have risen by 5.2 percent to just over 22 million metric tons this year so far.
In September 2011, Frankfurt Airport's aircraft movements climbed by 2.1 percent year-on-year to 42,496 takeoffs and landings. During the first nine months of this year Fraport recorded 366,180 aircraft movements at FRA - a jump of 4.9 percent.
After the record 2010 year, airfreight tonnage continued to normalize at a high level. In the first three quarters of 2011 FRA handled some
1.6 million metric tons of airfreight, slipping 0.7 percent. In the September 2011 reporting month FRA handled 176,222 metric tons of airfreight, a decline of 5.3 percent year-on-year. "Taking into account the sagging September figures, we expect Frankfurt Airport's airfreight tonnage for the entire year 2011 to drop slightly," said Schulte.
Traffic at the Fraport Group's majority-owned airports advanced in September 2011. Antalya Airport (AYT) in the Turkish Riviera served 3,323,333 passengers, representing a rise of 11.4 percent year-on-year. With 968,785 passengers, Lima Airport (LIM) in the Peruvian capital also recorded a double-digit increase of 12.5 percent. Fraport's two Bulgarian Black Sea airports also posted traffic gains in the reporting month: Burgas Airport (BOJ) received 323,864 passengers (up 18.0 percent) while Varna Airport (VAR) had 182,318 passengers (up 3.4 percent).
The majority-owned Group airports (including FRA) welcomed a total of 10,101,972 passengers in September 2011 - up 7.7 percent year-on-year. Cumulative Group figures for January to September 2011 surged by 9.8 percent year-on-year to 75,615,661 passengers.
