From the Sensory to the Intuitive, the BE OPEN Forum Explores Human Perception and How to Design for it
LONDON, November 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
BE OPEN Forum @ Design Miami/2012
Saturday 8 December 2-4 pm
BE OPEN, the global initiative to foster innovation and creativity, partners with Design Miami/ to launch the BE OPEN Forum, a portal to the future of design practice.
Each of the Forum participants practices outside the boundaries of traditional product design, utilizing food, scent, biochemistry and haptic technology to make research accessible to the global community and imagine the possibilities of design through sensory exploration.
The Forum speakers are: Carter Cleveland, computer scientist and co-founder of Art.sy; Dawn Goldworm, scent designer for olfactory branding company 12.29, who have been scenting Design Miami/'s exhibition space since 2009; Tuur Van Balen, partner in design practice Cohen Van Balen whose work, on the border of art and biology, creates bespoke emotional experiences; Marije Vogelzang, the world's first 'eating' designer; and Zigelbaum + Coelho, design studio founders. NY based creative consultant, Jeffrey Miller, whose work bridges the creative industries and socially responsible initiatives, will moderate the event.
Design of the five senses is at the core of BE OPEN's activities for 2012/2013, a holistic approach to user-oriented design, as BE OPEN's Founder, Russian businesswoman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Elena Baturina, said: "BE OPEN's year-long programme, which is focused on designing for the five senses, is about leading us closer to that mysterious sixth sense, intuition. It's a journey into intuitive design through a synthesis of the sensory and technology, a fusion that could produce an enticingly infinite variety of sensations."
The next stages in BE OPEN's journey through the senses will be announced in Miami, including information on the think tank's involvement in the Salone del Mobile, Milan 2013.
