CapsoVision is set to achieve superior diagnostic accuracy and continues to lead through the development of next-generation product features and technologies.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on recent analysis of the gastrointestinal (GI) capsule endoscopy market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes CapsoVision, Inc. as the recipient of the 2016 European Enabling Technology Leadership award. CapsoVision's flagship technology platform, CapsoCam®, may well unlock wireless capsule endoscopy's (WCE) potential to become the new gold standard in GI endoscopy. CapsoCam®'s unique features help eliminate many of the bottlenecks in existing technologies and deliver fast, efficient, and higher diagnostic accuracy.

CapsoVision is paving the way for the next generation of GI capsule endoscopes. The CapsoCam® system consists of several well-integrated components such as the vitamin-sized endoscopic capsule camera, CapsoCam®; a capsule retrieval and storage kit, CapsoRetrieve®; a USB-connected data access system, CapsoAccess®; and computer software for image review, analysis and diagnostic reporting, CapsoView®.
While competing WCE technologies offer a limited view field because of a single wide-lens camera and a light source positioned at one end of the capsule, CapsoCam® presents a 360-degree panoramic view. CapsoCam® boasts an imaging system that employs 4 cameras located along the circumference, oriented towards the sides of the capsule. Each camera has an almost 90-degree field of view and captures high-resolution images at a rate of 5 frames per second (fps), for a total maximum frame rate of 20 fps, whereas most peer solutions offer frame rates of 2 fps to 6 fps.
"Another distinct feature of the CapsoCam® is its wire-free design, which enhances patient comfort and freedom, reduces procedure costs, and reduces potential safety issues associated with wireless data transmission," said Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Analyst, Norma Vela. "Its onboard flash memory reduces the need for additional equipment, giving patients and physicians more flexibility while simultaneously eliminating the inherent risks of implanted devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators."
With its Smart Motion Sense™ and Auto Illumination technologies, CapsoCam® lowers data redundancy, optimises lighting, and extends battery life. Using Smart Motion Sense™, the device records images whilst in motion and hibernates in stationary mode. The auto illumination regulator adjusts the LED intensity during the examination to provide the best light, aiding in clear and sharp visualization and power savings.
Following the success of CapsoCam® SV-1, CapsoVision launched the second generation of the system, CapsoCam® SV-2. This product delivered the same advantages of CapsoCam® SV-1 but with a more user-friendly data access system. By 2015, the company had also introduced its newly redesigned software, CapsoView® v3.0, which is more intuitive and easy-to-use and has a flexible user interface designed to decrease diagnostic reading time. Released in early 2016, the third generation CapsoCam® Plus aims for greater diagnostic utility by providing nearly double the resolution of previous models, allowing for greater clarity and more detailed imaging.
"By working closely with physicians, the company ensures that its development efforts and new product generation match the needs of the marketplace," noted Vela. "With each innovation, CapsoVision refines its product design and technologies, thus closing the gaps in yield and accuracy for diagnostic performance."
Because of its technological advances, innovative product design, and strong commitment to improving disease management in gastroenterology, CapsoVision is the deserving recipient of Frost & Sullivan's 2016 European Enabling Technology Leadership award in the GI capsule endoscopy market.
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to a company that has developed a pioneering technology that enhances current products and stokes the development of newer products and applications. The award recognises the high market acceptance potential of the recipient's technology.
