TURKU, Finland and PORTLAND, Oregon, November 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Shanghai-based OTEC provides system integration for Chinese provincial broadcast network to support 85 local operators from a single video processing platform
Teleste, a leading provider of video and broadband technologies and services, and Elemental Technologies, the leading supplier of video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, today announced the deployment of a live digital TV video processing system for Gansu Broadcast and Television Network, Inc. The tightly integrated solution, delivered by Shanghai OTEC Technology Co Ltd., enables the Chinese regional operator to efficiently manage 85 local CATV sub operators and 100 channels from a single system.
Serving a region with approximately 26 million inhabitants, the Gansu Broadcast and Television Network combines best-in-class service, technology and efficiency to provide high-quality cultural programming and integrated information services to viewers. The operator has recently completed an initiative to deploy an advanced digital television network infrastructure in compliance with the Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) project of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).
The primary Gansu CATV headend features a Teleste Luminato digital platform for receiving high-definition (HD) satellite content. Designed for live content processing, the Luminato solution is tightly integrated with a Teleste Optimo transcoder powered by Elemental for converting HD content from MPEG-2 to the Advanced Video Coding (AVC/H.264) format. The deployed infrastructure provides video processing of 100 HD and standard-definition (SD) channels for provincial distribution.
Teleste partnered with Shanghai OTEC Technology Co., Ltd in support of the sale of the integrated system to the Gansu Broadcast and Television Network. OTEC is a leading CATV transmission equipment supplier in China. The Teleste Optimo transcoder is a part of Teleste's solution for distributing TV channels and video services on DVB, IPTV and over-the-top television (OTT) networks. Transcoding is powered by Elemental video processing software to provide real-time video and audio encoding for linear pay TV broadcast as well as live streaming to new media platforms.
"We are thrilled to support the world's largest TV audience - China - with the deployment of an integrated video processing platform for the Gansu Broadcast and Television Network and its innovative, cutting-edge digital television infrastructure," said Harri Pietilä, VP of Video Service Platforms for Teleste. "With Elemental as our technology partner, we can confidently fulfill our customer's high requirements for product and service quality."
"The Gansu Broadcast and Television Network is a superior example of the innovation and technology leadership fueling tremendous growth in the Chinese television market over the past few years," said Keith Wymbs, VP of Marketing for Elemental.
