General Dynamics' Vangent Inc. Awarded £30 Million Contract to Support UK Department of Health Quality Reporting Initiative
LONDON, January 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) today announced that its subsidiary Vangent Inc. was awarded a six-year, £30 million contract by the United Kingdom (UK) Department of Health. The contract is to develop the new Calculating Quality Reporting Service (CQRS) solution, which calculates achievement of quality outcomes for general practitioner (GP) practices and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs). General Dynamics acquired Vangent in October 2011.
CQRS will support up to 40,000 registered users across England and will replace the existing Quality Management and Analysis System that supports a £1.2 billion quality reward system, the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), for GPs and CCGs. The CQRS will support both existing and new quality rewards and incentives for improved patient care. Additionally, the new arrangements will help to improve data quality and ensure less time is spent by GP practices and the National Health Service (NHS) in measuring achievement against nationally and locally defined criteria. CQRS will use QOF data supplied by the NHS Information Centre's new General Practice Extraction Service (GPES).
"To be entrusted with the delivery of CQRS is a great honour," said Stephen Meyler, managing director for Vangent in the UK. "We look forward to leveraging our global capabilities and history of health IT innovation to deliver a mission-critical service for the NHS and general practitioners across England."
"Health IT innovation, including the development and application of next-generation analytics, is fundamental to advancing healthcare reform initiatives around the globe," said Marcus Collier, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology's Health and Civilian Solutions division. "Our acquisition of Vangent enhances General Dynamics' ability to provide end-to-end solutions and expertise as forward-thinking health organisations seek to achieve new levels of care, operational efficiency and, ultimately, population health."
