Gerresheimer Increases Production Capacity for Medical Plastic Systems in the Czech Republic
DÜSSELDORF, Germany and HORSOVSKY TYN, Czech Republic, July 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Gerresheimer AG, one of the world's leading partners of the pharma and healthcare industry, is extending its production capacity for medical plastic systems at its state-of-the-art Czech plant in Horsovsky Tyn. The production area is being increased by an additional 3,500 m². Gerresheimer is investing around EUR 18m in the project at Horsovsky Tyn and it will create around 200 additional jobs over the next two years.
"Global demand for simple and safe products for the precise dosage and administration of medications such as asthma inhalers and insulin pens is increasing all the time. Our Plastic Systems Division is one of the world leaders in this field. The scope and volume of our project work has increased considerably over the last six months. That's why we decided to make another significant extension to our Czech plant. We will be investing in additional production capacity, the optimization of our production and logistics operations and reduce our energy consumption so that we can achieve further growth. The Czech plant in Horsovsky Tyn is developing very positively," commented Uwe Röhrhoff, CEO of Gerresheimer AG.
Inhalers, insulin pens, lancing devices and various diagnostic systems are manufactured in Horsovsky Tyn. Back in 2011 Gerresheimer announced that it would be doubling the Czech plant's production area and invest around EUR 12m. The construction work has already been concluded and work to install the clean rooms and production machines is currently in full swing. Now a further 3,500 square meters of production area is to be added. The modern warehouse for semi-finished products is being enlarged and equipped with clean room technology and the tool service is being expanded. All these measures will optimize the production, service and logistics processes in existing and future production operations. At the same time the plant's energy consumption will be optimized by the installation of an integrated compressed air energy system. The plant extension will result in the workforce at Horsovsky Tyn being increased from currently approximately 450 to around 650 employees. Construction work will commence in 2012 and is scheduled to conclude in 2013.
Gerresheimer also announced at the end of 2011 substantial production capacity extensions at the sister plant in Pfreimd/Germany involving an investment of around EUR 25m. This construction project is currently in progress.
