Global Cloud Xchange Launches Transformational New Cloud Ecosystem
-- Delivering applications on a virtualized infrastructure, operating across the world's largest private subsea cable system, the new enterprise-class Cloud switching structure enables automated deployment of Cloud services - a market first.
HONG KONG, Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) today announced the launch of its high performance Cloud X platform to offer enterprise-class Cloud services, applications and content across the company's privately owned global fiber optic network.
Cloud X is uniquely designed to deliver not only infrastructure provisioning in a few clicks, but the deployment of complex multi-tiered enterprise applications directly on to customer's enterprise networks in minutes, rather than months. The Cloud X platform supports network transparency -- a key element in accelerating enterprise applications to the Cloud.
"As cloud computing becomes more prevalent, the network that supports it becomes ever more complex," said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer, GCX. "The network must now undergo a profound transformation, from a static entity, to a dynamic, intelligent, application-aware fabric that can support multiple traffic requirements, diverse geographies and flexible pricing models."
This is precisely the evolutionary leap that GCX has embarked on for the better part of this year since rebranding the company from the former Reliance Globalcom. The company's focus has been on delivering a true Cloud ecosystem for next generation enterprises enabling secure and efficient cloud content and applications distribution.
"We believe we will be one of the most disruptive companies in the next five years because we will become the fabric that enables the global cloud," Barney said. "Our new infrastructure will accelerate cloud traffic across the world, facilitate global content and application distribution, enable enhanced customer experience, and transform the way people think about rolling out applications and services."
The new Cloud X platform will provide an industrialized Cloud distribution capability in the markets that are expected to see the biggest growth in Internet usage and content consumption over the next decade. In particular, the "Emerging Market Corridor" spanning across Europe, the Middle East and Asia where GCX has extensive network coverage.
GCX's new platform consists primarily of two key components -- first a global integrated network which supports "cloud nodes" that serve up cloud services. Secondly, the transformation of 20+ facilities by mid 2015 into "cloud nodes" aligned with an automated orchestration layer.
"One of the key endeavors at GCX over the past year has been the unification of our network assets into a coherent platform that we can provision and control from a single source," said Wilfred Kwan, Chief Operating Officer, GCX. "This is part of a strategic realignment of our capabilities to support cloud networking requirements, including self provisioning of network resources and bandwidth-on-demand."
Today, GCX's infrastructure includes subsea cables and MPLS/IP networks which crisscross the majority of the world's continents. The company has also launched plans for its new PCX cable between the US West Coast and Japan, as well as the ICX cable between India and Singapore. GCX's current facilities, cable landing stations, data centers and Point-of-Presence (PoP) sites, cover all major regions worldwide.
