GoLive Launches "Synchronous Cinema" Smart Home Movie Theater
SHENZHEN, China, May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The pilot launch of the Smart Home Movie Theater was announced in Shenzhen, China on May 13, 2015 by the China Research Institute of Film Science & Technology ("the CRIFST") along with GoLive TV Tech Co., Ltd. ("GoLive"), a company funded by TCL Corporation. For the first time, the product, service and philosophy of GoLive's "synchronous cinema" was presented to the public.
With the development of Internet smart TV technology, traditional patterns of movie distribution have undergone continuous innovation and breakthroughs. The Movie Smart Home Theater not only enables users to enjoy movies synchronously without leaving their homes, but also boosts the development of the business and technical models whereby the viewing of a Chinese film is synchronized at the TV terminal with the showing of the same film in a traditional movie theater.
"As a home terminal unit, smart TV is capable of becoming a home cinema platform-level product thanks to the massive number installed. The combination of both will help establish the model of the Internet plus synchronous cinema, with the home theater as the viewing venue," explained Zhang Wei, head of the CRIFST.
GoLive CEO Liang Tiehang added that the Movie Smart Home Theater not only supplements and supports existing movie theaters and aligns with the goals of China's "Internet Plus," but also opens up a new market beyond the traditional movie theater, effectively extending the lifetime of a movie. The "synchronous cinema" business model can increase revenues and create a new growth point for investors in the movie industry as well as promote the healthy and sustainable development of China's film industry in the Web 2.0 era.
Relying on annual ex-China sales of over 15 million China-made television sets, this state-level test platform, sponsored by the CRIFST and with TCL Corporation as its first pilot partner, is set to make Chinese films available worldwide through GoLive's "synchronous cinema" channel built in TCL smart TV within the next five years. The platform will also be open to other TV set manufacturers following the pilot period.
