Government Extends Construction and Infrastructure Pipeline Contract with Barbour ABI
LONDON, March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Construction intelligence specialist Barbour ABI has today been given a contract extension by HM Government to continue to publish the Government Construction and National Infrastructure Pipelines through until August 2016. Barbour ABI was originally awarded the contract in September 2012, following a formal competitive tender process, because of its proven data collection processes and its existing knowledge in researching and tracking construction projects.
Since 2011, the published Pipelines have expanded to include more data on projects and programmes across departments. The commitment to making the data more user friendly using mapping and timeline technology - as well as promoting the pipeline more widely across the construction sector to key industry stakeholder groups and within Building magazine - has resulted in increased levels of engagement, meaning industry professionals have the confidence to make investments in new skills, services and products.
Simon Mahoney, Group Director, Barbour ABI, said:
"We are delighted that we will be continuing to work alongside the government to help the industry plan for the future. Over the last three years, we have built on our position as the experts in the field of handling and publishing construction data to collect, shape and deliver these pipelines as they have evolved, and it's credit to that hard work and the resulting strength of our partnership that HM Government has the confidence to extend the contract."
David Hancock, Head of Construction for the Cabinet Office, said:
"We see this as a really positive step for the future of the Pipelines, and beneficial to Industry as users of the pipeline. In continuing our contract with Barbour ABI, we affirm our intention to continue this work to improve the accessibility of the Pipelines and to make the data more user friendly. We publish the Government Construction Pipeline as a strategic tool, to provide transparency across Government Construction and to give confidence to the supply chain to invest in ongoing skills development."
The Pipelines can be found here. The Infrastructure pipeline contains private sector projects/programmes, for example £16bn investment for Hinkley Point C, £12.7bn on Offshore Wind and £300m for new container port facilities in Liverpool. The Government Construction details over £12 billion of spend allocated to education construction across the UK.
