GreenScreen Animals Introduces 3D Chimpanzee Models to Stock Footage Library
LOS ANGELES, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- GreenScreen Animals (www.greenscreenanimals.com) added 3D chimpanzee models (https://greenscreenanimals.com/footage/chimpanzee) to its extensive live-action animal footage library, using cutting-edge technology from Clon Studios (www.clonstudios.de) in Germany.
By using real animals instead of artists' renditions, GSA has for the first time ensured that these high-resolution 3D models are 100% anatomically accurate and will preserve their integrity forever.
"Our 3D models are now available to storytellers who previously did not have access to them," said Mark Shockley, President of GSA. "We are excited to offer this alternative solution in response to concerns over using great apes in the entertainment industry."
Clon Studios provided GSA with a mobile scanning unit to capture the likeness using a technique called photogrammetry. Dozens of cameras photographed the chimpanzees while standing in an A-pose, taking less than five minutes per animal. The footage was processed at Clon Data's German facility. Bringing the mobile scanning unit to the chimpanzees' home in California ensured low stress for the animals.
"Mobile photogrammetry was the best solution because we could travel to the animals' home. With this approach, the chimpanzees only needed to stand still for a few seconds, as opposed to laser scanning, which can take minutes," said Clon Studios CEO, Sascha Scheuermann.
"These are the last chimps in Hollywood with licenses to legally work in entertainment and once they retire, that's it," Shockley added. "We want to discourage people from traveling out of California or the country to work with unlicensed handlers in unsanctioned facilities so this is a great alternative."
