BRAINTREE, Massachusetts, Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE) today announced that the company's Irish distributor, Accu-Science Ireland Limited, has entered into a definitive agreement with the Health Service Executive (HSE), the organization that oversees all public health services in Ireland, to equip all hospitals with the BloodTrack® suite of remote blood inventory and bedside transfusion management software.

"Our goal is to deliver the best possible care to patients across our system," said Denis Maher, Assistant Director of Information Systems Corporate Supports, Health Service Executive. "By enabling our hospitals to more effectively and efficiently manage their blood supply, BloodTrack is intended to help drive improvements in work flow and productivity, as well as ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements."
In the first phase of the HSE project, scheduled to commence by end of 2012, BloodTrack will be deployed at 51 sites throughout Ireland to integrate hospitals' blood inventory management capabilities. The second phase is expected to extend the functionality of the system to allow for monitoring and traceability of blood units at the ward level using BloodTrack AutoFate, a clinical transfusion module that allows the arrival and final fate (end transfusion confirmation) of a blood unit to be recorded at any workstation and electronically sent to the blood bank. In the third phase, BloodTrack Tx, a transfusion verification module that confirms that the right blood is given to the right patient using barcode point-of-care (BPOC) and barcode positive-patient identification technology, is planned for implementation to provide a complete bedside transfusion management solution.
"We are delighted to see this major contract with the Irish Health Service finalized at the end of an extensive selection process," said Jennifer Tomosivitch, vice president, Patient Division for Haemonetics Europe. "Today's announcement reinforces the distinct value that BloodTrack can bring to improving patient safety and driving compliance for blood management across a large healthcare system."
BloodTrack is a remote inventory and bedside transfusion management solution that acts as an extension of hospitals' blood bank information systems; its modules interface with existing lab information systems (LIS) and hospital information systems (HIS). With BloodTrack, hospitals and donor centers are able to secure, verify, and monitor their blood and blood component supply chain electronically from the blood collection center, to remote storage locations within hospitals, to the nurse's station, and finally to the patient's bedside. Collectively, the technology helps hospitals to improve efficiencies, reduce clinical and blood bank workload, decrease blood inventory, and ensure compliance with regulations.
