Hertz On Demand, The Hertz Corporation's global car sharing club, has signed a car sharing partnership with Staffordshire University, one of the UK's most dynamic, progressive and forward-thinking learning institutions. The University now offers its students and staff the opportunity to reserve and drive fuel-efficient and eco-friendly Hertz on Demand car club vehicles on campus from just £5.50 per hour.
Michel Taride, President of Hertz International, said: "It is a pleasure to work with Staffordshire University in offering these great car sharing benefits to their students and staff. This partnership highlights the growing popularity of car-sharing among universities seeking green solutions which are both convenient and cost-effective. The other attraction of this scheme lies in its simplicity- members can just click, book and drive away."
Adam Van Winsum, Environmental Manager at Staffordshire University, commented: "We are delighted to be able to offer the Hertz On Demand car sharing scheme to our staff and students. Staffordshire University is committed to reducing the impact on our natural environment and we always welcome ideas which will assist us in achieving this goal. The Hertz On Demand car share initiative is an excellent addition to our existing environmental initiatives. The car club will not only help us in cutting down on our carbon emissions but will also contribute to our local community by reducing traffic congestion and the pressure for residents' parking spaces."
Hertz On Demand provides an economical, convenient and socially conscious alternative to car ownership. The service is a pay-as-you-go system, providing members with 24/7 access to vehicles located on Staffordshire campus. The cars are available to hire from £5.50 per hour, and can be booked in seconds over the phone, using an I-phone, or by visiting the http://www.hertzondemand.com website. The rate includes insurance, fuel, maintenance, cleaning, and roadside assistance. Membership is also free for life, and open to anyone over the age of 19 with a licence valid for the UK.
The car club at Staffordshire University will launch with a fleet of Fiat 500's, the Ford Focus Econetic and the award winning Alfa Romeo MiTo. Each vehicle has a very low CO2 output of less than 120g/km. The cars incorporate keyless entry via a smart chip-enabled RFID device, and are equipped with a cutting edge communication system that offers in-vehicle member care around the clock.
Hertz On Demand and Staffordshire University formally launched this initiative during the University's Road Safety event on 5th and 6th March, 2012. The car club will be promoted further on campus throughout the year, and is open to both students and staff.
