The quiz is part of celebrations of the British Council's 75th anniversary in Poland where it promotes British culture, engages in social projects, provides examinations services and teaches English. Warsaw was one of the first five cities in the world where, in 1938, the British Council created its office outside of the UK.
At first, the British Council's activities in Poland were focused on education: funding scholarships for Polish teachers of the English language and donating English books to Polish schools and Anglophile societies. After the war, the scope of activities was broadened to include the popularisation of the British culture. And since Poland became a member of the European Union in 2004, the British Council in Poland has also been more and more engaged in cultural and social programmes within a broader European perspective.
British Council's main objective, which is promoting English language, creates opportunities for millions of people around the world. Improved English skills can open doors to education, employment, mobility and international engagement. It can also help build connections between different cultures and countries.
"UK is OK" quiz can be accessed from ciekawe.onet.pl/ukjestok and consists of 15 questions. It starts on 16 September and ends on 15 October.
The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide.
We work in more than 100 countries and our 7000 staff - including 2000 teachers - work with thousands of professionals and policy makers and millions of young people every year by teaching English, sharing the Arts and delivering education and society programmes.
The British Council in Poland performs educational activities through the teaching of English at our reputable language centres in Warsaw and Cracow, and cooperating with a national network of partnership libraries and exam centres, which offer British language and professional exams throughout the country. Our cultural, educational and social projects aim at sharing the achievements of the United Kingdom. In 2013 we are celebrating 75th anniversary of our operations in Poland.
We are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter. A core publically-funded grant provides less than 25 per cent of our turnover which last year was £781m. The rest of our revenues are earned from services which customers around the world pay for, through education and development contracts and from partnerships with public and private organisations. All our work is in pursuit of our charitable purpose and supports prosperity and security for the UK and globally.
