Huawei Continues to Participate in OpenStack Development, Building an Open Ecosystem
TOKYO, Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As a Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation, Huawei participated in the 2015 OpenStack Summit held in Tokyo during October 27-30, 2015. During this conference for developers, users, and administrators of OpenStack Cloud Software, Huawei's engineers, together with experts from all over the globe, discussed how to promote OpenStack development and innovation, as well as how to build a cloud computing industry chain.
With the open and innovative attributes of OpenStack, developers hope to use it to deploy application scenarios such as virtualization, private cloud, public cloud, hybrid cloud, desktop cloud, and network function virtualization infrastructure for customers, cloudifying their key services and facilitating continuous production innovation.
During the four-day summit, experts from Huawei took part in 20 speeches to present Huawei's OpenStack-based FusionSphere cloud operating system and to share its innovative contributions to the OpenStack community, attracting hundreds of attendees. Huawei also organized over 10 exchange activities among customers, analysts, and partners, helping to publicize Huawei's important role in the cloud computing field.
Since 2010, OpenStack has become the most influential open source cloud computing project and has gained recognition from across the industry for its open and advanced architecture, efficient community development, and smart deployment mode. In 2012, Huawei joined the OpenStack Foundation and has actively participated in technological development since then. In 2013, the OpenStack Foundation accepted Huawei as a Gold Member in recognition of Huawei's long-term efforts and contributions in open source activities. As of September 14, 2015, Huawei was ranked seventh in the development of the OpenStack Kilo release. In addition, Huawei was ranked sixth in the development of the OpenStack Liberty release. In the Big Data field, Huawei was ranked fourth in the Hadoop community and third in the Spark community. Huawei unveiled its open source Astro project (Spark SQL on HBase package project) in August 2015, which will significantly encourage the promotion of Spark in the industry.
The newly released Huawei FusionSphere 6.0 cloud operating system represents Huawei's support for and promotion of OpenStack. The concept of open source is employed in the FusionSphere 6.0 components, architecture, and ecosystem, allowing customers to have more choices in software. Huawei FusionSphere 6.0 keeps pace with the open source OpenStack community, complies with the native OpenStack standards, and supports OpenStack application programming interfaces (APIs). Third-party applications developed based on native OpenStack can run on Huawei FusionSphere 6.0 without any necessary changes.
Mr. Chen Kun, Vice President of Huawei IT Cloud Computing Product Line, said during the summit, "Huawei's FusionSphere cloud operating system adheres to open source principles in the following ways. First, it welcomes open source, making full use of open source outcomes. Second, it goes beyond open source and enhances commercial features, including optimizing stability, security, scalability as well as performance based on open source. And third, it contributes to open source. Similar to other providers, Huawei encounters enormous issues and challenges during the process of incorporating OpenStack into its products. Once Huawei overcomes these issues, it will share its experience with the community in the spirit of open source."
Based on the FusionSphere, FusionInsight, and FusionStage software platforms, Huawei provides public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid cloud solutions with unified architecture. By leveraging the open APIs and software development kits (SDKs), Huawei cooperates with developers and partners in the cloud industry to build an open cloud ecosystem.
Huawei has deployed 255 cloud data centers and more than 700,000 virtual machines across the globe, and the company's cloud computing products provide services for more than 1,000 customers in over 84 countries, covering industries and sectors including government, public utilities, telecommunications, energy, and finance.
