Huawei Reinforces Importance of Open Cloud Platform based Ecosystems for ICT Transformation of Telecom Industry
- Huawei Hosts NFV Open Cloud Forum at Europe Solution Innovation & Integration Experience Center
DUSSELDORF, Germany, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei today hosted the Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Open Cloud Forum at its European Innovation and Experience Center in Dusseldorf, Germany. At the event, Huawei reinforced the importance of building an ecosystem based on open cloud platforms, a core component of the future telecom network. The company will remain dedicated to facilitating the evolution of network architecture through continuously upgrading its OpenStack-based FusionSphere Cloud Operating System. Representatives from the OpenStack Community, the standard organization ETSI ISG NFV, telecom operators and industry partners were present at the one day event.
Mr. Wang Shengqing, President, Global Marketing and Solution Sales, Huawei, said, "Network virtualization based on NFV technology is one of the core strategies of Huawei's SoftCOM future network architecture. Huawei will continue to assist carriers in maximizing the benefits and value brought by technologies and concepts such as Software Defined Networks, NFV, cloud computing and Internetized operation, creating new value opportunities of ICT convergence through close cooperation."
Huawei developed the FusionSphere Cloud Operating System based on OpenStack standards, aiming to create an open and standardized platform for NFV innovation and network evolution. Addressing the demanding network requirements of high performance for carriers and enterprises, it is highly reliable, easily managed and very secure, enabling data centers that are ready for future ICT convergence to be established. Since its launch in 2013, FusionSphere has been commercially verified by leading carriers such as Vodafone and Telefonica.
"OpenStack is the clear choice for major carriers for their telecom network virtualization," stated Michael Howard, Co-founder and Principal Analyst, Infonetics Research. "The Huawei FusionSphere Cloud Operating System has proven its performance through deployments with major cloud service providers and telecommunications providers. We expect FusionSphere will continue to play a key role in the ICT evolution of the telecom industry."
As Huawei's core solution to facilitate the establishment of NFV open network, FusionSphere provides a range of features to ensure the openness of future networks. One key solution enabled by FusionSphere is the future-oriented SD-DC2, Huawei's business-driven distributed cloud data center solution, which enables centralized resources scheduling and unified cloud services provisions by integrating multiple data centers of various vendors' and service providers' into a single resource pool through the standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). It also meets carrier and business's requirements for large-scale resource pools, flexible management, and openness.
In addition, future networks built on Huawei's FusionSphere will be capable of supporting third-party devices and products across hardware and applications. With this, Huawei will continue to work with major carriers, telecom vendors, IT vendors, and Over the Top (OTT) companies to encourage NFV innovation and best practice identification. Leveraging the strength of the industry as a whole, Huawei is accelerating its NFV technology development and establishment of a complete open NFV open network.
To date, Huawei has carried out more than 60 joint NFV and Software Defined Network (SDN) innovation projects with over 20 telecom carriers, including Telefonica, Vodafone and China Telecom. Huawei also accomplished several successful commercial deployments in 2014, including the SDN-based Wo cloud project in cooperation with China Unicom, and a NFV-based vIMS joint project with a leading European operator.
Huawei is committed to facilitating NFV standardization. Huawei acts as the co-president of the Basic Architecture Group of ETSI ISG NFV, and is involved in the development of all nine NFV applications at ETSI ISG NFV, four of which are led by Huawei.
