Huawei Wins the Bid to Lead Turkmenistan's Latest Integrated Railway Communications Project
SHENZHEN, China, June 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, recently announced that its GSM-R solution has won the bid for the Turkmenistan Buzhun-Serehtyaka and Bereket-Cilmammet integrated railway communications project, which will soon commence. Following the successful implementation of GSM-R technologies in Turkmenistan's Turkmenbasy-Ashgabat (east-west) Line and Cilmammet-Buzhun (south-north) Line in 2012, the new project marks another breakthrough of Huawei's GSM-R technologies in the Turkmenistan railway industry.
Turkmenistan has long been an important transportation hub at the heart of Eurasia, with a total of 3,600 km of railway lines. The transportation industry holds special significance to the country's economic welfare. However, Turkmenistan's railway transportation capacity has been greatly hindered by the outdated and aging communications systems. In view of the situation, the Turkmenistan government called for the development and modernization of the railway communication systems.
"Huawei has more than 20 years of experience in the research, design and development of wireless network equipment, as well as in-depth experience in the customization and implementation of railway communications technologies in different parts of the world," said Mr. Wu Ling, General Manager of Enterprise Wireless GSM-R Product Line, Huawei. "We are excited to work with the Turkmenistan Government on the modernization of the existing railway system. Huawei is committed to innovation, and we will continue to optimize our GSM-R solution offerings, providing high-quality customer-centric solutions and services for railway operators around the world."
Huawei's customized GSM-R solution for the Turkmenistan Buzhun-Serehtyaka and Bereket-Cilmammet integrated railway communications project features advanced communication technologies and equipment for the railway industry, including the DBS3800 distributed base stations and Remote Radio Units (RRUs) which are installed on top of the towers, efficiently reducing the impact of antenna feeder loss on radio network coverage while satisfying the special local requirement that equipment rooms cannot be located close to the towers. In addition, Huawei also re-utilizes the core networks implemented in the 2012 projects, which not only reduces network construction cost but also ensures high reliability of the railway communications network, meeting the trunking dispatch needs on Turkmenistan's live networks. Upon completion of the project, the peak speed of the railway line will increase from 60 km per hour to 120 km per hour, which greatly improves the efficiency of the transportation of the specific railway lines, and enhances Turkmenistan's positioning as a major railway transportation hub in Eurasia and around the world.
Since 2002, Huawei has been committed to providing safe and reliable GSM-R railway communications networks that integrate railway information systems, applications, and services. By the first quarter of 2014, Huawei's GSM-R solutions have covered 24,000 km of railway lines globally. In 2013, Huawei achieved a 55% share of the new GSM-R contracts globally, covering more than 6000 km of railway lines in total.
