HOUSTON, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunting PLC announced that it has presented a check in the amount of $125,000 to New Danville, a self-sustaining, master-planned community dedicated to providing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to live, work, and grow with their non-disabled peers.

The gift was made as part of the oilfield services company's long-standing tradition of supporting a single well-deserving, Texas-based charity through a donation made on behalf of the Hunting Art Prize. It includes a direct donation as well as a contribution from Hunting that matches the dollars generated from the sale of art by finalists in the competition at the 2013 Hunting Art Prize gala, which was held on May 4 in Houston.
Marshall K. Harris' life-size graphite drawing "Round Up" B.F. Smith & Son Saddlery Circa 1940-1942 won this year's $50,000 award, which is historically one of the largest in North America for painting and drawing.
Announcement of Hunting's donation marks the second consecutive year the company has supported New Danville, which encourages self-reliance and autonomy by providing its residents with low-cost housing and access to educational sessions and enrichment activities that teach basic life and job skills.
Thanks to Hunting's contribution in 2012, the non-profit now serves more than 500 adults each week and will soon complete the construction of a 7,200-square-foot multi-use building, which will house woodshop activities and provide seating for 140 during lunch.
"New Danville's work is inspirational to say the very least, and we couldn't be more honored to support all that they are doing in our community to give adults with disabilities a chance to live and thrive independently," said Dennis Proctor, Chief Executive of Hunting PLC.
In addition to expanding its miniature horse therapy program and vegetable and herb gardening activities, New Danville has also begun production of a range of all-natural products – from body soaps and hand lotions to sea salts, sugar scrubs, and lip balms. Sales of these items support the self-sustaining operations of the community.
Kathy Sanders, Founder and President of New Danville, said, "It couldn't be more rewarding to see the difference we are able to make in the lives of others thanks to Hunting's generosity. From expanding our physical space to growing our programs and services, their gifts have played – and will continue to play – an important role in transforming the lives of the individuals we serve."
