Industry Benchmarking Report Reveals Investment Priorities of UK Healthcare Heads of IM&T
LONDON, October 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The Healthcare IT Exchange Network releases results of its industry benchmarking survey. The report's main findings include:
- IT Strategy: 69.4% of respondents select IT strategic development as one of the top investment priorities for 2012/2013
- Electronic Patient Records emerges as a top priority for 68.8% of heads of IM&T
- Mobile Health Solution Technologies: a top priority for 65.6%
- IT Infrastructure: 65.6% of senior healthcare IT professionals pinpoint this as a main focus for investment
The Healthcare IT Exchange Network recently surveyed heads of IM&T in health and social care organisations from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, across a range of primary, secondary, community care and private healthcare organisations.
An increasing drive to move care closer to home, the aging population and a rapidly emerging technology-savvy generation are just some of the challenges faced by IM&T Directors and their organisations. The aim of the survey was to uncover the key drivers behind the investments IM&T directors need to make to meet the changing demands of patients on one hand and reduce costs while maintaining high-quality services on the other.
There is a high demand for IT infrastructure solutions, with 65.5% of IM&T directors selecting this as a top priority for investment. Electronic Patient Records solutions are also high on the agenda with 68.8% selecting this as a top priority. Other popular choices included IT delivery and IT team staffing. Livia Trubenova, Head of Production, Healthcare IT Exchange, commented: "The results do not come as a surprise. As the IM&T function is critical for improving patient care, healthcare organisations need to focus on upgrading their infrastructure and the implementation of new technologies to be able to provide high-quality care in the future. As a number of IM&T leaders point out, EPR is central to improving patient care; it is one of the foundations for electronic health records and a major step towards the realisation of the UK Government's plan to integrate health, social and community care."
