"Inequality the key challenge of our time," Says Chinese Business School Dean at European Launch in London

Speaking at the European launch of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) in London today, Founding Dean Professor Xiang Bing said, "Inclusive growth and harmonious society remain elusive. Wealth inequality, increasing in the West and in China, is the key challenge of our time. A new way of economic development, and new perspectives on business education, are essential for harmonious society and social order."

CKGSB, the leading independent Chinese postgraduate business school, is the first mainland Chinese school to open a branch overseas.

Dean Xiang said, "We are reaching out globally to offer senior Western executives the unique insights being generated by our world-class faculty into the shifting economic order and how businesses can be a socially constructive force in the new global economy. At the same time, through our commitment to a London presence we will expand our research and teaching collaborations with leading UK and European universities and business schools.

Speakers at the opening ceremony included the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming, and Lord Green, UK Trade and Investment Minister. Guests included senior UK business and academic figures, among them Sir Victor Blank, Business Ambassador for UK Trade & Investment, who has joined CKGSB's European Advisory Board.

Sir Victor said, "China has more to offer the world than trade alone. The dynamic and growing business environment in China represents a largely untapped opportunity for us to learn and work closely together. The emphasis thus far in business education has been what the West can export to the East; and China has perhaps been too modest about its own role as a creator and disseminator of knowledge. CKGSB is at the leading edge of this movement."

CKGSB is a not-for-profit school supported by the Li Ka Shing Foundation. Its faculty of leading business academics, all experienced in both China and the West, has been attracted from such schools as Wharton, Stanford and Yale to teach and research at the school's three campuses in China.
