PARIS, February 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Whilst the "ski" world is waiting with bated breath for the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympic games in a few days, Starting Dot has unveiled the launch of the .SKI domain name, in partnership with the International Ski Federation (FIS). This new domain name will go live in July 2014.

Starting Dot, a new domain name registry operator, has just received approval to operate the new .SKI domain name extension across the entire world. Its application has been filed to ICANN in 2011 and supported, inter alia, by the International Ski Federation (FIS), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).
The .SKI domain extension will be open to everyone: professionals, avid skiers or champions. However, to ensure the proper use of the extension, Starting Dot has partnered with the International Ski Federation (FIS). Its role will be to oversee the use of this domain extension and to protect the best interests of all stakeholders, such as federations, ski resorts, or competition organisers.
Godefroy Jordan, CEO of Starting Dot states: "This is a unique opportunity for ski professionals, ski brands and individual skiers to find an online identity that speaks precisely to their interest in ski. We're truly excited about bringing .SKI to the community for the benefit of all ski enthusiasts."
Each year, Starting Dot will carry out an audit of the use of .SKI along with the FIS. This will, thereby, offer web users a guarantee of quality, security and legibility. When selling its other domain extensions (.ARCHI and .BIO), Starting Dot has adopted the very same original approach of joining forces with the representative bodies governing each sector concerned.
