Is Castle Cary Shaping up as the New St Ives?
CASTLE CARY, England, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Castle Cary has a new art gallery giving the busy town a trio of fine art establishments and placing it firmly on the map for art lovers.
"Why can't Castle Cary have ambitions to be the next St Ives and attract artists and collectors?' asks Jill Rousseau owner of the new Grey Door Gallery in Woodcock Street. Jill and Michel moved to Somerset last November to open their new gallery.
'We chose Castle Cary because it has the right ambience to house a gallery', says Jill 'And we wanted to harness the enormous creative community in Somerset, and indeed the whole of the west of England.'
The gallery opened on March 26th 2013 with an international line up of artists and ceramists. Its ambition is to work with the other two town centre galleries to make Castle Cary a 'must go to' place for art and artists.
The Grey Door Gallery will feature a showcase that will highlight the work of a different maker, including glass and wood artists, on a monthly basis.
The showcases this year will highlight further the enormous talent of ceramic, glass and jewellery makers from the West Country and beyond.
One year on from opening, the gallery is expanding the jewellery, and also diversifying more into Studio ceramics, whilst maintaining a solid base for functional, dishwasher and oven proof ware.
The gallery is becoming a haven for both collectors and clients who want unique pieces in their homes.
