Italian Textile Manufacturer Loro Piana Chooses Quintiq to Improve Productivity and Delivery Performance
'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, The Netherlands, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced that Loro Piana, the Italian textile and luxury goods producer, has chosen Quintiq Company Planner to schedule machines and personnel in its finishing department. Loro Piana Textile Division will use the Quintiq solution to increase productivity in this core department and to improve its delivery performance. TRIM Informatica will be integration partner.
Providing demanding clients with high quality fabrics
Loro Piana Textile Division has been supplying the finest wool fabrics to the most exclusive clients for more than six generations. Loro Piana produces textiles in its own facilities in Italy and the finishing department is where Loro Piana's expert workforce gives the luxurious fabrics the refinement that places them above competitors' products.
The production of such fine textiles is done in small batches, in complicated, multi-staged processes according to the features and characteristics of each fabric. Each piece of fabric is considered a single work order and routing the numerous work orders among the benches and skilled professionals is extremely complex. Difficulties in balancing the workflows cause bottlenecks, impairing delivery performance and reducing the department's productivity.
Loro Piana requires top quality planning solution
For a long time, managers at Loro Piana had been looking for a manufacturing planning solution that could support them in improving delivery performance and productivity while providing a good return on investment.
Quintiq Company Planner is designed to provide manufacturers like Loro Piana with a comprehensive solution for managing capacity planning and material management. By improving visibility and transparency throughout the supply chain, Company Planner enables informed order acceptance decisions that take into account material availability, sales budgets, and resource capacities. Quintiq was able to demonstrate to Loro Piana how Company Planner can help significantly improve productivity and delivery performance by balancing the work flows.
"Quintiq inspired us with its proof of concept. It was impressive how quickly they were able to model our world including the rules, constraints and relevant resources with their solution," commented Mr. Nicola Gussetti, Operations Director at Loro Piana Textile Division. "We immediately saw the advantages Quintiq could bring us."
Manage bottlenecks and increase productivity
With Quintiq, Loro Piana will gain visibility into the flow of the work orders between the machines and insight into the reasons for the bottlenecks. More importantly, Quintiq will schedule work orders so as to minimize these bottlenecks. And by coordinating delivery dates with fabric features, the finishing department will experience increased productivity.
Francois Eijgelshoven, Director Business Unit Manufacturing at Quintiq commented: "Loro Piana is our second recent Quintiq implementation in Italy, after Acciaieria ABS. I believe this is a good indication that the fast-growing Italian market is ripe for advanced solutions like Quintiq that can solve complex planning puzzles. Quintiq software is designed for planning manufacturing processes like those used to produce Loro Piana's high-quality fabrics."
As a result of winning the Loro Piana contract and the growing interest among Italian companies in advanced planning solutions, Quintiq has opened a strategic sales and operations office in Northern Italy. This office will provide local companies with excellent customer service and support in the Italian language.
