LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and Consumer Electronics manufacturers, today announced that it has integrated its Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android TV Set-Top Box (STB) with the nanoCDN technology of Broadpeak, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) technologies and live and video-on-demand (VOD) servers for cable, IPTV, OTT, hybrid TV, and mobile operators worldwide.

The announcement was made at IBC 2015, which is being held in Amsterdam from Friday, September 11th through to Tuesday, September 15th. Both Broadpeak (hall 4, booth B78) and iWedia (hall 5, booth B40) exhibit at the show where the integrated solution will be demonstrated.
Broadpeak's award-winning nanoCDN technology enables operators to extend their CDN into the home network, leveraging equipment such as broadband gateways, STBs and cable modems. Through the power of multicast, nanoCDN makes live HTTP video delivery to any device truly scalable, turning millions of broadband gateways or STBs into active components of an operator's content delivery infrastructure. nanoCDN implements multicast support for most popular ABR (adaptive bit rate) formats, guaranteeing a superior quality of service.
iWedia's Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android TV STB implements iWedia's ANDROID4TV framework and APIs to seamlessly extend Android and integrate all the multicast, unicast and broadcast components necessary to give support to managed IPTV, OTT TV and broadcast TV services. Teatro-3.5 allows access to live TV (over IPTV, OTT, and over DVB), on demand and catch-up services, recording and time shifting features, as well as to Google services including YouTube and the Google Play app store.
"TV ops increasingly rely on OTT distribution in addition to multicast and/or broadcast. At the same time they tend to adopt Android TV STB to enhance their content offering with a bouquet of apps," says Hervé Creff, VP Marketing at iWedia. "Our Teatro-3.5 STB software is an ideal solution to operate such a STB and the integration of Broadpeak's nanoCDN technology dramatically enhances the Quality of Experience with respect to live TV OTT."
"An Android TV STB is obviously an ideal target for the distribution of live http television using the different popular ABR streaming formats as the framework has been mainly designed for OTT support. However performances issues may happen with this type of distribution," says Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. "The integration of our nanoCDN technology within iWedia's Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android TV STB solves these issues as it brings the scalability needed when millions of viewers tune in to the same live event."
