June Brings Die & Mould China, an Influential Asian Purchasing Platform, to Shanghai

SHANGHAI, May 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Die & Mould China 2011, jointly organized by the China Die & Mould Industry Association and Shanghai International Exhibition Co. Ltd., takes place June 2-5 at the New International Expo Centre in Shanghai. With the rapid development of the Chinese die and mould industry, this event, once biennial, now annual, has arguably become the most influential purchasing platform for dies and moulds, precision machines, and forming technology in Asia. The upcoming edition, with around 800 exhibitors, will occupy 40,000 m2 of floor space. Trade visitors numbering more than 100,000 are expected.

In 2010, China's die and mould industry revenues totaled $17 billion (EUR12.2 billion), increasing 14% from 2009. The value of exports in this area soared by more than 19% to $2.2 billion (EUR1.58 billion), and the value of imports increased nearly 5% to just over $2 billion (EUR1.44 billion). Thus, for the first time ever, China enjoyed a trade surplus in this sector in 2010.

Data for the Chinese machine tool industry are similar. Last year, sales in this sector increased by 41%. At the same time, China imported processing machines and tools worth in excess of $15 billion (EUR10.8 billion).

Chinese die and mould makers are expanding into growth areas such as medical technology and sustainable energy generation. Therefore, they are increasingly interested in acquiring technology for microprocessing, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, simulation integration, CAD/CAM/CAE and information management.
