Kazakhstan to Continue Promoting the Future Energy Concept as EXPO 2017 Legacy

Following the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017, Kazakhstan intends to continue the transition to clean energy.
Despite enormous natural resources including hydrocarbons, Kazakhstan will stimulate the development of renewable and alternative energy sources. The theme of the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 "Future Energy" became a unique opportunity for the country to make a contribution to the development of green energy worldwide. Astana is starting to summarize the results of the exhibition and look at ways of using the EXPO facilities now when the event has come to a close.
The exhibition became, most importantly, an international platform for discussing current policy in the sphere of energy, problems and prospects for developing alternative energy sources and energy efficiency. Astana EXPO 2017 was attended by more than 50 heads of states and governments, as well as the world's leading scientists, inventors and experts in new energy technologies. These people included Bertrand Piccard, a pilot of Solar Impulse - the first solar airplane, Jas Thandi, a member of Bloodhound SSC, and many others.
EXPO in Astana enabled 115 countries to demonstrate their approaches in solving energy and environmental problems to the whole world. A total of 153 energy-saving inventions and technologies which are already in use were presented at the exhibition.
The EXPO business program included 12 conferences of the Future Energy Forum. As a result, the Astana EXPO 2017 Manifesto of Values and Principles has been signed, which is the main intellectual legacy of the exhibition. It contains recommendations for ensuring the sustainable development of the planet, including the transition to low-carbon and carbon-free energy sources.
In addition, Astana exhibition facilities which are to become new global places of interest will form an integral part of EXPO's legacy. According to the President Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative, the exhibition complex will continue to promote innovative sustainable development. The Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), International Center for the Development of Green Technologies and Investment Projects under the auspices of the UN and the IT Startups International Technopark will be created using EXPO 2017 infrastructure.

The International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 dedicated to Future Energy was an expositional and recreational event that took place between 10 June and 10 September 2017 in the capital of Kazakhstan. The exhibition lasted 93 days and became one of the most spectacular cultural venues in 2017. Overall, 115 countries and 22 international organizations took part in the event.
As part of Astana EXPO 2017, global policy documents were drafted in order to promote an energy-efficient lifestyle and wide use of renewable energy sources.
