Ekahau Inc., the leader in hospital-grade Real-time Location Systems (RTLS) announced today the award of Computer News Middle East's (CNME) "Healthcare Deployment of the Year" to King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) for its real-time location system (RTLS) and asset management solution.
The 311-bed King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) was selected from 40 regional hospitals, by a jury of experts who unanimously selected KHUH and also acknowledged the hospital's status as the most technologically advanced hospital in the Middle East. King Hamad University Hospital leverages Ekahau's RTLS with Azimuth's Symphony. Symphony integrates asset locations derived from the Ekahau RTLS location engine, passive RFID tags, and barcode audits and integrates this location information to clinical, enterprise resource planning and access control systems data. Ekahau asset tags and state-of-the-art PDAs with Symphony minimize data entry time for staff who can quickly analyze location data whenever and wherever they need it.
With Ekahau's patented RF fingerprinting location algorithms, KHUH uses one of the most accurate Wi-Fi based location solutions in the world, enabling visibility into assets and people wherever their standard Wireless LAN network is installed. The WLAN installed at KHUH, designed by Azimuth and Ekahau engineers, delivers greater than 2.5m accuracy, with Room Level Separation throughout the 66,000m2 facility.
"King Hamad Hospital represents the future of hospitals everywhere because it demonstrates just how powerful location intelligence can be in solving complex workflow challenges. We are honored to work with Azimuth and help the hospital use location to improve its processes in meaningful and creative new ways," said Mark Norris, CEO of Ekahau.
Major General Sheikh Salman bin Attiyatulla Al Khalifa, Commander and Chief Medical Officer of King Hamad University Hospital, noted: "Adding location intelligence to patient data allows our caregivers to make better decisions and spend more time with patients instead of paperwork. Azimuth's Symphony minimizes double-entry issues and unproductive time associated with disparate information systems."
