MADRID, September 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
The latest discoveries in oncology are set to be presented at ESMO 2014, 26-30 September in Madrid, Spain. The congress is the leading European event in cancer research and will feature ground breaking studies from across the globe.
The press programme kicks off with an opening press conference, Friday 26 September at 11:00 CEST. Rolf A. Stahel, ESMO President, will launch the event and Johann de Bono, ESMO 2014 Scientific Chair, will give a taster of the programme highlights for journalists.
Hot topics to be discussed during the opening press conference include:
- Comparison of cancer drug approval times between the EU, Canada and the USA and discrepancies in accessing medicines between countries
- Professional burnout in young European oncologists
Journalists can expect five days of top notch science with the latest results presented across the field of oncology: from the effectiveness of new treatments on survival and quality of life to the availability and cost-effectiveness of therapies in different regions and countries. International experts will present their research and the implications for clinical practice and patients.
Late-breaking trials are expected to reveal up to the minute findings on topics such as cervical cancer, thoracic tumours, head and neck cancer, melanoma, colorectal cancer as well as supportive care.
Press releases on the latest news will be distributed daily and the most significant trials will be discussed during the morning press briefings. Special commentaries will be made available to the press on crucial topics including the status of checkpoint inhibitors, promising novel findings in supportive care, and the value of lung cancer vaccination following the results of a big phase 3 study.
ESMO's independent experts will be on hand for interviews allowing journalists to obtain additional views on the impact of state-of-the-art research.
The theme of ESMO 2014 is 'Precision Medicine in Cancer Care'. Emerging findings will be presented on how to provide optimal treatment for patients according to their individual circumstances and the molecular characteristics of their disease.
This year's ESMO congress promises to be packed with news stories and feature ideas in the field of oncology and should not be missed.
