Leuphana Offers Gap Year Program in Cooperation with Chinese University
LUENEBURG, Germany, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Many school graduates do not yet have a clear picture of their professional future. Taking time out to take stock, a so-called gap year, may help them to decide whether to study or to choose an alternative form of training. The German Leuphana University of Lueneburg in cooperation with the Chinese Sun-Yat Sen University in Guangzhou (canton) is now offering a unique opportunity for ten applicants: to take part in a one year program that offers insights into the academic worlds of German and Chinese universities in conjunction with intercultural experiences. In addition, Chinese language courses and seminars conducted mostly in English will improve participants' foreign language skills.
The program starts in October 2014 with Leuphana's freshmen's week. The participants will work on a case study for one week in interdisciplinary groups together with all the freshmen. Experts support and advise the groups. Subsequently, they will attend the Leuphana Semester. The participants are introduced to quantitative and qualitative methods as well as transdisciplinary issues and topics including history, philosophy and research.
The second semester of the program deals with modern China. After intensive language courses the participants will attend modules given by a Chinese SYSU professor. The lecture series of about three months' duration covers the challenges, developments and changes facing a growing economic power from a Chinese perspective. The knowledge acquired about China and the Chinese language is the foundation for attending the SYSU Summer School in Guangzhou, in Southern China. The participants will have the opportunity to apply their newly won language skills and form their own impression of Chinese culture.
The cost of taking part in the Gap Year Program is about 1,900 € and it comprises the tuition fees for both semesters and the exchange program as well as the language courses and the exams. Applicants should be proficient in English. More information can be found at Leuphana.de/gap-year. Applications to be sent to gap-year@leuphana.de
