The Glen Orchy blended malt is priced at a jaw-dropping £13.49 for a 70cl bottle, making it a fraction of the price of a branded Imperial Tribute blended whisky at £125.99 a bottle and a £99.95 Prime Blue 12-year-old whisky both scoring fewer than 83 points. This is the second own label whisky from Lidl that has been given a rating of excellence by whisky legend, Jim Murray, who awarded Lidl's 33-year-old Maxwell Whisky "Superstar" status last Christmas leading to the product selling out within 48 hours of going on sale.
The Glen Orchy blended malt, which is among 4,500 whiskies reviewed in the Whisky Bible, scored 22 points for the nose, 22.5 for taste, and 22 for both finish and balance leading Jim to describe it as being an "excellent malt" with "superb, mouth-watering gristy sugars" with the combination equalling "light-bodied fun". Jim goes on to say, "It's incredibly heartening to see that Lidl has really raised the bar for the everyday Scotch." With an unbeatable price to match, this whisky looks set to be the must-have addition to Christmas festivities this year.
