Beating stiff competition from Domino's stores across the UK and Ireland, Lajos was awarded the title for going above and beyond with his diving duties. In January of this year Lajos helped a local family who emergency foster young children, renovate their property, which was lacking in electricity, water and heating.
The store supported the family with Domino's as they originally had no kitchen and were eating cold or take away food for the first two weeks. After delivering to the address a couple of times Lajos offered to help with the renovations in his spare time. He helped in the house on his only day off and one evening a week after a day shift. The family were very grateful for all his help and the house was completed just before Christmas.
Lajos is originally from Hungary and came to live in England in January 2008 to earn extra money to provide for his two little boys back home. As he had no English skills at all he began work at Domino's leafleting and would walk for nearly eight hours a day. Very quickly the team at the store began to notice that although he didn't speak the language he was very friendly and created a great atmosphere around him. Because of his attitude and enthusiasm Lajos moved onto wobble boarding and thoroughly enjoyed it. He now works every hour possible in the Hartlepool store as a driver and does only two other activities, training at the gym and DIY.
Lajos Nagy, Domino's Delivery Driver of the Year, has improved his English skills dramatically since starting working at the store. He said: "I am delighted to win this award. Delivering pizza in all weathers and driving conditions can be a challenge but the smile you get from a customer when you knock on their door makes it all worthwhile. I thoroughly enjoy my job and to be crowned Delivery Driver of the Year is a fantastic achievement."
Mike Racz, franchisee for the Hartlepool store said: "Lajos is a true gentleman and is polite and selfless in every manner and deserves some recognition for all his hard work. Lajos is a very valued member of our team andhas delivered so much more to our stores and our community."
Domino's Pizza's annual awards recognise the franchisees and in-store teams from the company's 810 stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
