SLOUGH, England, February 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Forum to Discuss Economic & Environmental Benefits of Cloud for Education Community
International solutions provider, Logicalis ( http://www.logicalisprevision.com/), today announced that Simon Daykin, CTO, is to address UCISA members at the association's Cloud Computing Seminar (http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/groups/ng/Events/2011/Cloud.aspx), on the opportunity, challenges and value of cloud, and the architectural flexibility afforded by 'virtual containers'. Hosted at Loughborough University, the event will focus on infrastructure and networking provision, and consider how cloud computing can offer one solution to the myriad of challenges, such as budget cuts, tough carbon targets and an escalating appetite for technology, facing the education community.
UCISA represents almost all the major UK universities and higher education colleges and has a growing membership among further education colleges, other educational institutions and commercial organisations interested in information systems and technology in UK education, providing a network of contacts and a powerful lobbying voice.
What: "Cooperative Clouds & Virtual Containers" Who: Simon Daykin, CTO, Logicalis When: 11.30am Wednesday 16th February Where: Cloud Computing Seminar ( http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/en/groups/ng/Events/2011/Cloud.aspx), UCISA, Holywell Park, Loughborough University
Speaker abstract: Cloud computing is dramatically changing the way the education sector can consume IT infrastructure and IT services. To extend cloud beyond which hypervisor platform you prefer, Logicalis has developed an architectural construct it calls a 'Virtual Container'. This construct and the associated cloud architecture allows organisations to embrace cloud models, and deliver IT services through onsite, offsite, shared and hosted platforms. This session will consider this architectural model and its use cases in education, and how to approach IT service delivery and platform sharing in new and innovative ways, without first having to agree on a single hypervisor.
Logicalis recently announced its high-density data centre ( http://www.logicalishddc.co.uk/) (HDDC) and range of Made to Measure cloud services are natively connected into JANET (http://www.ja.net/), the network dedicated to the needs of education and research in the UK. Logicalis' connection to the unique high bandwidth academic network will provide JANET's users with a range of data centre and cloud services, including Infrastructure as a Service, application hosting for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) servicing the education community, through to high density hosting of virtualisation and supercomputing environments.
