London's Home for Making Brings World-renowned Maker Faire to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Here East, London's home for making, today announces that the world's premier making event is coming to east London. In a major coup for the unique cluster located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Here East will become the home for the world's newest flagship Maker Faire, and the first to take place outside of the United States. Here East and Maker Faire are seeking to bring Maker Faire to Here East in the summer of 2015.

Technological advances have sparked a global renaissance in making, and the barriers to ideas becoming physical products are quickly being broken down. Companies at the cutting-edge of this movement are making a future of intelligent things that use technology and data to learn how to be more efficient and smarter in a world of connected objects that has been dubbed the 'Internet of Things'. Gartner estimate that by 2020, there will be nearly 26 billion devices connected to the Internet of Things.

A gathering of makers and aspiring makers, Maker Faire has been at the forefront of driving this movement since 2006. It is an award-winning event that brings together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors to show what they have made, and to share what they have learned. It was launched by Maker Media in 2006 and in each subsequent year has grown in popularity and reach. In 2013 more than 530,000 people across ten countries attended a Maker Faire.

There are currently two annual flagship Maker Faires in the Bay Area and New York, as well as nearly 100 mini Maker Faires around the globe. In 2013 demand for Maker Faires grew most in Europe. 47% of attendees to Maker Faires in 2013 were visiting for the first time.

Here East's partnership with Maker Faire is a further part of the cluster's unique offer to the creative, digital and TMT industries. The maker movement in east London has grown rapidly in recent years, with companies including Sugru, Technology Will Save Us, Makie and BERG leading the way in creating innovative products and transforming the way these products are delivered to market.
