The president of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara attended the formal ceremony of laying down the foundation stone of the hospital. The project is initiated and coordinated by the Children of Africa charity foundation headed by Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, first lady of Cote d'Ivoire.
The Mother-Child hospital is being built on a plot of 2 hectares adjoining the botanic garden, within a picturesque medical sector of Bingerville, former capital of the Republic. The building is designed for 150 beds and will include an in-patient clinic consisting of obstetric, laboratory diagnosis, medical, infectious disease, surgical (with 6 surgery blocks) and morbid anatomy departments, in line with an out-patient clinic, a family planning and health education counseling center, a blood transfusion unit (with a blood bank) and a pharmacy. A special area of the hospital activity will be prevention and treatment of particularly dangerous diseases, such as cancer, Buruli ulcer and AIDS.
LUKOIL's investment at the stage of the hospital design and construction will exceed $400,000. The company intends to make a valuable contribution into fitting out the hospital with modern medical equipment in the future.
LUKOIL has repeatedly accorded beneficent aid to medical institutions of Cote d'Ivoire in the past. In particular, the company purchased and delivered to the country's Ministry of public health a major package of medical equipment and medicines, as well as several ambulance vehicles in late 2011.
