These data consolidate the trend begun in 2014: Mahou San Miguel has increased its turnover and profitability for the second year in a row and recorded growth in all its business lines. Extension of the international footprint and growth in the UK
Outside Spain, Mahou San Miguel increased its business by 5.5% on the previous year, closing the year at 79 million euros with more than 2 million hectolitres sold, accounting for 15% of the company's total volume of beer. These figures confirm the sound trend in a business that has grown by over 50% in the last four years.
In the UK, a key market for the Spanish brewer, its sales volume increased by 13.8% in 2015 on the previous year. Mahou San Miguel has a history going back over 25 years in this market, where it sells its beer brands San Miguel, Mahou Cinco Estrellas and Alhambra Reserva 1925, as well as the mineral water Solán de Cabras.
These results have been based on the good performance of San Miguel, which in 2015 launched its new brand image and global positioning in Europe and is now present in over 18,000 hospitality establishments across the UK. It again posted double-digit growth and extended its range in the market with the launch of its alcohol-free brands San Miguel 0.0% and San Miguel 0.0% Lemon. Mahou Cinco Estrellas, Alhambra Reserva 1925 and the mineral water Solán de Cabras also performed well as international premium brands.
"Our values, strategy and very healthy brands provide a unique and distinctive positioning for Mahou San Miguel within the global beer industry, thanks to our brewing expertise backed by 125 years of history and innovation, our financial strength and our flexibility," commented Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero, CEO of the Spanish Company. "We are already present in more than 70 countries on five continents and produce more than 70% of the Spanish beer drunk around the world," he added.
Of particular note in Mahou San Miguel's international expansion has been the purchase of 30% of the North American microbrewer Founders, which has bolstered its presence in a booming segment, and its growing consolidation in the Indian market, where it has had a subsidiary since 2014.
