The report, "Internet Global Growth: Lessons for the Future," shows the amount of international Internet bandwidth serving African countries has grown dramatically, from 1.21 Gbit/s in 2001 to 570.92 Gbit/s by 2011 based on USD billions of investments in undersea cables in recent years. The report provides evidence showing that the current Internet model effectively promotes Internet growth in Africa, and warns that restrictive regulations could impede growth. Dr. Kende credits private investment and innovation for the progress, but cautions that regulatory overhaul could halt this growth.
