Medical Sales Industry Offers Lifeline as Graduate Unemployment Rates Soar
MANCHESTER, England, May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
A new report released by totaljobs.com has found a third of university graduates are still looking for work more than six months after leaving university, despite the majority completing over one hundred applications.
The report revealed 36 per cent of graduates in 2011 were forced to take lower-skilled jobs compared to only 27 per cent in 2001 and the unemployment rate stands at just under one in five. With only a slim chance of graduates finding a full-time job, let alone a career in their particular field, it appears graduates are constantly fighting for jobs against older, more experienced candidates.
New data from the ONS revealed just how tough it has been for graduates in recent years, with the recession taking a notable effect. Joblessness among those who graduated within the past two years currently stands at 18.9 per cent, compared with a general unemployment of 8.4 per cent.
However with these latest statistics suggesting all is doom and gloom, employers in certain industries wish to benefit from the current oversaturated market of talent, according to the medical recruitment specialists Advance Recruitment.
Nick Langley, Managing Director at Advance Recruitment believes the medical sales industry offers many graduates a brilliant opportunity as well as the chance to begin their career in an exciting and challenging sales industry.
Speaking on the company's behalf Nick stated, "Specialising in medical sales recruitment we are aware the last couple of years have certainly not been easy for recent graduates with the latest figures clearly showing an extremely competitive job market, however there are signs of improvement.
"Unlike many other industries which severely limited the number of employed graduates over the past couple of years, medical sales jobs and opportunities continue to grow and employers wish to reap the benefits and improve their work force.
"While positions maybe more competitive, the best and brightest will no doubt flourish with many companies enticing graduates with excellent starting pay, internship opportunities and the chance for career progression in a field perfectly suited for those with a medical degree or experience in sales".
Many young professionals also find it particularly difficult to even secure an interview with as many as one in four failing to be offered a single interview. Recruitment companies like Advance Recruitment provide advice and support for graduates throughout the entire process, making it easier for graduates to find work in a time of economic downturn.
