MEDITECH 6.x Implementation at Alder Hey Children's Hospital Revolutionising Patient Care
LIVERPOOL, England, Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A new era in healthcare is beginning at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool with the recent successful implementation of the MEDITECH 6.x Electronic Patient Record (EPR) supplied by Centennial MIT. As one of the largest children's hospitals in Western Europe, Alder Hey Children's Hospital is looking toward a paperless system that will help them care for over 275,000 patients and families that visit the Trust each year.
"The new MEDITECH system has brought us up-to-date with twenty-first century hospital IT. This has been by far the best and smoothest implementation I have been a part of," said Louise Shepherd, CEO. "The entire hospital worked together as a team to make it happen. Working together with MEDITECH, we can now look forward to having a system that will truly revolutionise the safety and efficiency of our patient care."
The successful implementation of the software came down to the staff at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, who dedicated their time and skills while working closely together to ensure a smooth transition to the newest version of the EPR. A massive team effort between clinical experts at the hospital led to staff taking ownership of the project and building the system to enhance electronic clinical workflows, such as e-Prescribing, paperless referral management, and early warning systems for nurses.
"The passion of the staff was incredible, they believe they can make a difference by using the MEDITECH system to its fullest potential," said Cathy Fox, Associate Director of Informatics. "The fact that it's a children's hospital encourages everyone to really make the experience better."
As the clinical lead for the implementation, Dr. Nik Barnes, Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, spent much of his time with colleagues at Alder Hey Children's Hospital to show them the benefits and advantages of the system. "Phase One of the project has introduced a truly clinical system to the Trust," said Dr. Barnes. "Now that staff are using the LIVE system, they are seeing and understanding the full potential of the MEDITECH EPR."
Alder Hey Children's Hospital is also a partner in the iLINKS Informatics Transformation Programme, dedicated to sharing health and social care information throughout the North Mersey community. As a result of their participation in this program, Alder Hey Children's Hospital will have the ability to share and exchange patient health data with community providers on both MEDITECH and non-MEDITECH systems.
