MEP Qatar 2011: MEP Gathering to be Held in Qatar

DUBAI, UAE, March 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Since Qatar won the bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, all eyes have been on the Middle East. Qatar will spend up to $86.5 billion on construction and infrastructure in the next 11 years and it is expected that mechanical electrical and plumbing (MEP) services will be responsible for 25-30% of overall project value.

The MEP Qatar 2011 Summit, organized by the International Quality & Productivity Center, will take place from 26 - 29 June 2011 May in Oryx Rotana-Doha, Qatar and will provide a platform for benchmarking the best practices in the MEP sector.

Having realized the increased requirements in the MEP sector, developers and main contractors are now focusing on methods to boost local production for MEP materials as well as improve the skilled engineering workforce. In a recent study conducted by the International Quality & Productivity Center- an international research firm, results showed that drawbacks such as outdated technology and unavailability of materials were the causes for delayed projects.

One of the biggest factors to influence timely MEP project delivery is efficient communication between the project owner, main contractor and sub-contractors. With an effective chain of command, the pre-planning stages of an MEP project will address the challenges that may occur and how these can be overcome for a project to reach its handover.

With the formation of the Qatar sustainability assessment system (QSAS), almost all projects are undergoing a green building plan whereby sustainability and cost-effective design are at the top of the agenda for developers. This has helped spread green building knowledge amongst MEP professionals but has yet to address how maintenance of existing buildings can be cost efficient in the near future.

The four-day event will provide a 360 degree perspective from the client, contractor, consultant and solution provider.
