MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor to Speak on POLITICO Panel on Emergency Preparedness
- Best-Selling Author of The Mobile Wave Will Address Technology-based Public Safety Solutions in the Post-9/11 World
TYSONS CORNER, Virginia, Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroStrategy® Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of enterprise software platforms, today announced that Chairman and CEO Michael Saylor will participate on a POLITICO emergency-preparedness panel being held November 19, 2013, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
Saylor will discuss how mobile technology provides critical solutions for emergency and disaster response in the post 9/11-world. Among these solutions is MicroStrategy's Usher mobile identity management platform, which represents a transformational mobile app technology for public safety, at a time when the U.S. Department of Commerce is exploring a high-speed, nationwide network of secure communications for the country's First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet).
FirstNet is a Congressionally mandated, interoperable wireless broadband network that will enable police, firefighters, emergency medical service professionals, and other public safety officials to more effectively communicate and do their jobs.
In addition to Saylor, the POLITICO Emergency Response panelists include: Rep. Susan Brooks, Chairman, Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, House Homeland Security Committee; TJ Kennedy, Deputy General Manager for FirstNet; and Ken Salazar, Former Secretary of the Interior and Former U.S. Senator. The panel discussion runs from 8:45-9:30 am and will stream live on the POLITICO website at www.politico.com/events/. Cathy Lanier, the Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, will deliver the keynote preceding the panel discussion.
Mr. Saylor, the New York Times best-selling author of The Mobile Wave: How Mobile Intelligence Will Change Everything, will outline his vision for how current technology addresses pressing public safety and homeland security issues, such as how various federal, state, and local emergency responders can communicate securely with each other in real-time, locate each other, and can identify themselves peer-to-peer.
"We believe there are critical mobile technology solutions at hand today that address emergency response needs and can save lives," said Mr. Saylor.
The lack of radio interoperability among responding police, fire, and other agencies at the World Trade Center in 2001 was cited by the 9/11 Commission as an ongoing concern. The recent shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., which involved failed radio communication, again highlights that when multiple federal, state and local agencies need to work together in emergency situations, they still face challenges in communicating with each other as well as in determining who is on-site and who is responsible for specific aspects of the emergency response.
FirstNet is being created to address this very real, critical need. FirstNet will provide emergency responders with the first nationwide, high-speed network dedicated to public safety. This broadband data network will fulfill a fundamental need of the public safety community and a key recommendation of the 9/11 Commission. Creating FirstNet requires a high level of public-private partnership, collaboration and shared commitment to the well-being of all Americans. Using a nationwide spectrum license, FirstNet will provide a single platform for daily public safety communications.
MicroStrategy is working with industry-leader Northrop Grumman to develop a cyber-secure mobile app ecosystem for effective emergency response nationwide over a dedicated communications network, in line with FirstNet requirements. The Usher mobile app can provide real-time ID management, geolocation-based situational awareness and real-time secure communication between first responders at any emergency response location.
The POLITICO's website bills the conference as a "conversation about how key players in emergency and disaster response allocate critical resources, plan for the unexpected and come up with innovative solutions to resolve unfinished business from 9/11 as well as prepare for the future." POLITICO is a Washington, D.C.-based political media group focusing on the White House, Congress, politics and policy via its website and newspaper.
