MobileIron Completes the Modern Enterprise Security Puzzle
SAN FRANCISCO, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MobileIron (NASDAQ: MOBL), the leader in enterprise mobile security, today announced powerful new capabilities to protect enterprise data wherever it lives: in the app, in the network, and in the cloud. The shift of the modern enterprise to mobile and cloud has forced a rethink of enterprise security fundamentals and, for many CIOs, it can feel like a complicated puzzle of new approaches and technologies. The capabilities revealed at MobileIron's Mobile First Conference in San Francisco provide an integrated end-to-end solution for that puzzle.

"Modern enterprise security revolves around choice and trust. Employees and business units demand their choice of best-of-breed mobile and cloud services, and CIOs must establish a trust model that enables them to support that choice without putting corporate data at risk," said Ojas Rege, Vice President, Strategy, MobileIron. "This has been our guiding principle at MobileIron since our company founding, and this is the next stage of the security solution that we have been building for the last eight years."
MobileIron Visual Privacy provides transparency to employees
Almost every mobile device, no matter whether it is owned by the employee or the company, is used for both business and personal tasks. Mobile is highly personal. In a recent analysis of millennials, 87% agreed that, "My smartphone never leaves my side, night or day."[1] This means that their mobile device is filled with personal data. Employees care just as much about the privacy of this personal data as companies care about the security of their business data. But most employees don't trust their employer with their privacy.
MobileIron Visual Privacy will let employees see exactly which data their company can view and which actions their company can take on the device. Transparency drives trust. MobileIron Visual Privacy will allow companies to narrow the trust gap between them and their employees. Employees will have peace-of-mind and this can accelerate their adoption of new mobile enterprise services and BYOD programs.
MobileIron was granted U.S. Patent 8,695,058 for "selective management of mobile device data in an enterprise environment," the foundation of mobile privacy, in 2014.
MobileIron Tunnel protects data in the network with multi-OS app VPN
Privacy extends to the network as well. IT must secure traffic from enterprise apps without capturing traffic from personal apps. This fundamentally changes the network security model from device-wide VPN to more intelligent and granular app VPN.
MobileIron plans to extend MobileIron Tunnel from iOS to Windows Phone and Android. This is designed to allow any app from the Windows Phone Store to use MobileIron Tunnel for secure connectivity at the app level and any app from Google Play installed through Android for Work to use MobileIron Tunnel at the workspace level. The IT administrator will be able to set certificate and VPN configuration settings behind the scenes, making enterprise access seamless for the employee.
MobileIron Key Manager protects data in the cloud by giving the enterprise control over content encryption keys
The personal cloud has been one of the most prevalent security challenges for the modern enterprise. The MobileIron Content Security Service (CSS), launched in Q1 2015, separates security controls from data storage methods and allows security to be managed at the document-level across multiple content repositories, including the personal cloud. Central to this capability is the management of digital keys for the encryption of that content.
Today, MobileIron announced the MobileIron Key Manager, which is a new capability of CSS that allows the enterprise to use their own hardware security module (HSM) to safeguard the digital keys used by CSS. This is especially appealing for high-security and highly regulated enterprises. Key Manager supports both on-premise (SafeNet) and cloud (Amazon Web Services CloudHSM) deployments. This gives MobileIron customers their choice of how to manage their master keys.
CSS will also extend support to Google Drive, which is one of the most popular cloud storage and collaboration tools for MobileIron customers.
New MobileIron integrations make IT operations mobile-aware
Mobile is becoming the primary computing platform for more and more employees in an organization. As businesses mobilize, existing IT systems and processes must be aware of mobile apps and devices and be able to take appropriate security actions. MobileIron can act as the system of record for the company's use of mobile technology. MobileIron integrations allow existing IT solutions to access data from MobileIron and take actions in MobileIron, thus making IT operations mobile-aware.
Making security operations mobile-aware: The new MobileIron integration with Splunk is designed to provide pre-compiled visualizations that can be used for PCI, CJIS, and SOX compliance programs. The integration will also feed information about security actions taken through the MobileIron platform into Splunk's security and compliance applications. As a result, MobileIron will enable security operations to be mobile-aware.
Making the service desk mobile-aware: The new MobileIron integration with ServiceNow is designed to allow service desk technicians to view MobileIron asset data and take common MobileIron security actions from their ServiceNow console. For many organizations, ServiceNow is the system of record for all IT assets, and the MobileIron integration will allow mobile to be integrated into company-wide reporting and analytics.
Scaling MobileIron ecosystem platform: MobileIron also announced the launch of its Customer Community Portal (community.mobileiron.com), which includes expanded developer resources, and MobileIron Marketplace (marketplace.mobileiron.com). These sites will create communities across MobileIron customers and partners, making it easier for ISVs to integrate their security solutions or apps with MobileIron, and for MobileIron customers to discover the solutions that are suitable for them.
