MobileIron Wins 15 NHS Customers in Less Than 60 Days
- Mobile App Strategies and Service Efficiencies at Top of the NHS Agenda
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MobileIron, the leader in security and management for mobile apps, data, and devices, today announced that, in less than 60 days, it has added 15 new NHS organisations to its growing list of healthcare clients. Supporting Mobile IT across the full NHS ecosystem of hospitals, primary care trusts, surgeries and training establishments, MobileIron now includes organisations such as Oxford Health Informatics Services and Somerset Primary Care Trust amongst its expanding customer base in the UK.
MobileIron's success in this sector can be attributed to its status as the only vendor that can deliver a path to mobile apps and multi-OS security whilst preserving the native user experience. Initially, the organizations are using MobileIron for secure email provisioning, with plans to deploy a variety of business productivity and professional medical mobile apps through the use of MobileIron's Enterprise App Storefront.
Jason Holloway, CEO of MobileIron partner Bridgeway Security Solutions, has worked closely with a number of these NHS clients and is witnessing many innovative use cases for smart devices across the sector, from the boardroom right to the front line. "Most deployments are having a direct effect on patient care as well as improving efficiency. For example, one hospital we're working with is using iPads to conduct patient surveys. This improves accuracy and uptake rates, but also means they can collate responses and act on the data immediately, as opposed to waiting days or weeks."
NHS IT departments are also using MobileIron to research which apps are best suited and most frequently used across staff teams in order to make informed decisions about app recommendations and policies ahead of full rollout. Holloway continues:
"The iPad and iPod Touch are becoming increasingly common amongst NHS staff. The popularity of medical note-taking applications on the iPad and nursing tools on the iPod Touch is growing apace. Many organisations are also trialing PACS, patient monitoring and other medical apps designed to save time, reduce errors and eliminate the need for unnecessary administrative tasks, which can detract from the efficiency of frontline services."
As NHS organisations begin to harness consumer technologies such as smart devices and mobile apps, mobile security becomes increasingly important. Paul Jacka, Technical Specialist for NHS South of England, explains, "In our sector, the right mobile security solution is not nice to have, it's mandatory."
"If a device is compromised, lost or stolen, the organisation must be able to enforce policies to ensure sensitive data, not just personal identifiable data, doesn't become compromised. This is where control functions such as monitoring and selective wipe really come into their own. As smartphones and tablets become a common tool across the NHS, we must ensure security and compliance is met to the highest, cost-effective standard in order to safeguard sensitive information and protect patients, staff and organisations. All organisations must risk assess their situation and apply their policies accordingly; however, in my view, any organisation that ignores such risks is a dangerous headline waiting to happen."
Bob Tinker, CEO of MobileIron, concludes, "The UK public sector is at the helm of mobile app deployment and smart device adoption. From what we've seen among our NHS customers and partners, this is just the beginning. We are committed to helping the UK health sector transform the quality and efficiency of its services through mobility."
